Jailbreakers Beware: iOS 9.1 kills Pangu Jailbreak; patches two vulnerabilities
Apple has listed several security patches in the security release notes of iOS 9.1 and has credited the “Pangu Team” for discovering two of them. Here are the vulnerabilities that have been patched in iOS 9.1 that were most probably used in the Pangu iOS 9 – iOS 9.0.2 jailbreak.
This means that Pangu Jailbreak won’t work with iOS 9.1. You can still use them to jailbreak your device on iOS 9.0.2, iOS 9.0.1 and iOS 9.configd
Available for: iPhone 4s and later, iPod touch (5th generation) and later, iPad 2 and later
Impact: A malicious application may be able to elevate privileges
Description: A heap based buffer overflow issue existed in the DNS client library. A malicious application with the ability to spoof responses from the local configd service may have been able to cause arbitrary code execution in DNS clients.

Impact: A malicious application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges
Description: A memory corruption issue existed in the kernel. This issue was addressed through improved memory handling.
CVE-ID
CVE-2015-6979 : PanguTeam
It is not clear if Apple had already patched the vulnerabilities in iOS 9.1 beta version, or they discovered them after Pangu iOS 9 jailbreak was released last week.
It goes without saying that jailbreakers should avoid upgrading to iOS 9,1 and be extremely careful while installing jailbreak tweaks.

Jailbreak iOS 9.2, iOS 9.2.1
Latest iOS 9.2, iOS 9.2.1 Jailbreak Status
Apple released iOS 9.2 on December 8th, which includes several bug fixes, features and improvements such as support for AT&T’s NumberSync, iPhone support for Apple’s USB Camera Adapter, support for Mail Drop in Mail, improvements to Safari View Controller and lots more.iOS 9.2.1 was released on January 19th with bug fixes and security updates.
Since Apple patched two vulnerabilities used in the Pangu iOS 9 Jailbreak in iOS 9.1, you can’t jailbreak iOS 9.2 on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch using Pangu jailbreak currently.
iOS 9.2.1 Sucessfully Jailbroken
Despite rumors that the usual suspects - Pangu and TaiG teams – had
managed to get to grips with iOS 9.2, it turned out that our hopes for a
late 2015 release for a jailbreak tool were unfounded. The statement made by 3K Assistant, was edited and many were left wondering if iOS 9.2 would be jailbroken at all.

Thankfully, it seems there is hope on the horizon. Luca Todesco, known on as @qwertyoruiop - an Italian developer has posted screenshots of the iOS 9.2.1 beta working with Cydia – the jailbreaking app and tweak store app.
The release puts to bed rumors that it was now impossible to jailbreak iOS, however, even Todesco admitted that iOS 9.2 was proving much harder to jailbreak than iOS 9.1:

Taig 9.2.1 Update
Apple has released iOS 9.2.1 for the public and has already started
the beta testing for iOS 9.3. The first beta for iOS 9.3 has already
been seeded to Apple’s Developer Program and Public Beta Program. But
that’s not what the iOS community is actually waiting for. Apple patched
the iOS 9 jailbreak in the iOS 9.1 release, and since then, no update
on the next jailbreak has been heard about. But rumors around the TaiG 9.2.1 jailbreak are building up since more than a couple of months now.

In case you are new to the iOS jailbreak community, the TaiG team increased its fan-base when it surprised the whole iOS community by releasing iOS 8.3 jailbreak. The team went ahead to release the next jailbreak for iOS 8.4 too. However, we haven’t heard much of the hacker group since then, and TaiG fans are awaiting a new announcement or development from the star jailbreak team. Considering the fact that iOS 9.2.1 is already ireleased [ Download iOS 9.2.1 – ext link ], TaiG 9.2.1 is probably not too far away.
Video : Quick Download Taig 9.2.1 Jailbreak App Icon on iPhone
Though a lot of people would not accept TaiG’s involvement in the iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak scenario, there are evidences that indicate that the TaiG team is working on the next jailbreak. Xie Lei, TaiG CEO, had shown confidence on his team’s capability to work out an iOS 9 jailbreak. Also, the TaiG team had also pointed out an important exploit in iOS 9 and was credited by Apple for the same. All these incidents tell us that TaiG is not sitting idle and is surely developing the TaiG 9.2 – 9.2.1 Jailbreak.
On the other hand, even iOS 9.2.1 does not look like a big improvement over iOS 9.2, as the “.1” increment in the naming scheme doesn’t look like a big growth. It will probably come with a few bug fixes and performance improvements, and we don’t expect any new features. However, iOS 9.2.1 will be a better option for TaiG to build a jailbreak for. Because iOS 9.2 will probably fade away in the next month, and iOS 9.2.1 will be a tad more stable and speedier, thus making it a better firmware to jailbreak.
Anyway, we expect the TaiG 9.2.1 jailbreak to be released after Apple releases the iOS 9.2.1 firmware which has happened already. Meanwhile, TaiG will get more time to work out the exploits.

Apple’s iOS 9.2.1 Released, Jailbreak 9.2.1 Imminent Or More Waiting?
iOS 9.2.1 Released, Jailbreak iOS 9.2.1 Utility Imminent Or More Waiting? – Today, following last week’s release of both iOS 9.3 beta 1 and iOS 9.3 beta 1.1, Apple issued iOS 9.2.1
to the masses. While we’re certain you’re already pondering the
possibility of a new iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak, we must first discuss the
firmware as an iOS update. Preceding the forthcoming iOS 9.3 update,
which adds Apple’s own in-house f.lux solution for reducing blue light
exposure (dubbed Night Shift) and focuses on more direct improvements (found here),
today’s iOS 9.2.1 update was released to focus on behind the scenes
improvements. As with all iOS updates, the new iOS 9.2.1 firmware can be
obtained via one of two methods: either as an OTA (over-the-air) update
inside the settings app or through iTunes, though we strongly advise against updating for those of you currently jailbroken on iOS 9.0.x! For more details on iOS 9.2.1 and jailabreaking, continue reading past the break.

As stated previously, being the fifth iOS 9 update, 9.2.1 doesn’t really offer any noticeable changes – aside from correcting an MDM server issue (multiple account management for enterprise), the following is the extent of iOS 9.2.1’s changelog:
Next
up, jailbreaking. Sadly, last week’s iOS 9.3 beta didn’t do the
jailbreak community any favors; quite the opposite. As we’ve stated
before, jailbreak developers like to wait for the latest versions of iOS
before releasing new jailbreak solutions to ensure that as many people
can jailbreak for as long as possible.

Hence the reasoning as to why iOS 9.3 may have set things back as far as jailbreaking is concerned, TaiG may ultimately decide to wait for iOS 9.3 before dropping their new jailbreak.
However, the second possibility is that the group may rush a utility to jailbreak iOS 9.2.1 if any of the following conditions are true: iOS 9.3 closes vulnerabilities intended for exploitation, TaiG has a surplus of useable exploits, they feel as though we’ve waited long enough and assume an attitude of “if not now, when?”

Ultimately, we should see a new jailbreak soon, especially if Apple waits to release iOS 9.3 until the spring and TaiG opts for an iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak. Regardless of which play TaiG will inevitably choose, we’ll keep you updated every step of the way – keep your browsers locked to Jailbreak Pangu.com!

This update contains security updates and bug fixes, including a fix for an issue that could prevent the completion of app installation when using an MDM server.Unfortunately, the worthwhile features won’t arrive in iOS until the next major update, iOS 9.3, which currently doesn’t have a public release date.

iOS 9.2.1 Jailbreak Update! New Utility For iOS 9.2 Instead? PP’s Crazy Claims
Jailbreak and iOS 9.2.1 Update! PP Claims New Utility for iOS 9.2 Instead – Recently, ensuing the release of iOS 9.2.1,
a number of reports perpetuating false information have begun
circulating throughout the jailbreak blogosphere – in fact, the story
was even picked up by the jailbreak sub reddit, which sadly furthered
the reach of the incorrect report. Said report originated from PP, which
doesn’t lend to its credibility whatsoever, makes the widely inaccurate
claim that iOS 9.2.1 won’t be jailbroken before iOS 9.2 and instead of
targeting the latest public firmware (9.2.1), TaiG will release a
jailbreak for iOS 9.2 instead. That’s not the case at all; for a
complete break down and explanation as to why we’re just as likely to
see an iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak, continue reading past the break.
PP’s entire case rests on this! First of all, the crux for PP’s rather unfounded claims is that iOS 9.2.1 patches key vulnerabilities that could have been utilized in the creation of a new jailbreak and therefore the group who will likely issue the next tool (TaiG) will instead jailbreak iOS 9.2.1’s predecessor: iOS 9.2.
While it is true that iOS 9.2.1 does patch vulnerabilities, it closes less than both iOS 9.1 and even iOS 9.2, the firmware that PP claims the next jailbreak will target! Here, take a look at iOS 9.2.1, iOS 9.2 and iOS 9.1‘s security fixes as outlined on Apple.com. Note that the only patched security vulnerabilities in iOS 9.2.1 that could potentially aid in jailbreak development are as follows:

Furthermore, iOS 9.2 closes three residual exploits leftover from the Pangu iOS 9 jailbreak that Apple left un-patched in iOS 9.1 (the firmware that rendered the jailbreak useless), all of which can be considered more valuable than the above vulnerabilities considering they were actually exploited and used in a jailbreak.
A simple cmd + f (or ctrl + f for Windows) will bring up the “find” box, from there type in “Pangu” on the security pages for iOS 9.1 and iOS 9.2, you’ll see that actual jailbreak exploits were closed instead of simply vulnerabilities that could possibly be exploited in a jailbreak.

Also, if that weren’t enough, TaiG absolutely hates PP! Not only did they port their iOS 8.1.x jailbreak to Mac OS X, but they also ripped off their code and stole their utility for the iOS 8.4 jailbreak. Initially TaiG released their last jailbreak utility for iOS 8.3 and before they had the chance to adapt it to iOS 8.4, PP just slapped a new UI on the TaiG jailbreak, changed the line referencing supported firmwares and called it their own.
To this day, TaiG even has a “notice” up on their site calling PP out for stealing their hard work and ripping off the TaiG jailbreak code.
In conclusion! By PP’s logic, iOS 9.1 should be the first firmware to jailbreak before both iOS 9.2 and iOS 9.2.1 considering iOS 9.2 closes far more valuable exploits. To put it simply: main jailbreak developers will never target a firmware that isn’t the latest public firmware. If TaiG or Pangu were to jailbreak iOS 9.2 before iOS 9.2.1, they would have done so when iOS 9.2.1 was still in beta stages, just like Pangu did for iOS 9.0.2 when they discovered iOS 9.1 beta closed an exploit they were planning on using.

Eventually, once TaiG deems it an adequate period for a release (based on a number of varying factors we’ll discuss in a future article), a new jailbreak will be released to function on both iOS 9.2 and iOS 9.2.1. And regardless of which firmware the next jailbreak targets, we’ll keep you fully updated – simply lock your browsers to Jailbreak Pangu.com!

Jailbreak iOS 9.2.1 Versus iOS 9.2
The above video from popular YouTuber iCrackUriDevice delves into the very topic we’re about to highlight – therefore featuring it in today’s article is a perfect fit.PP’s entire case rests on this!

- Several of the WebKit fixes
iOS 9.2 Closes More Important Exploits

Furthermore, iOS 9.2 closes three residual exploits leftover from the Pangu iOS 9 jailbreak that Apple left un-patched in iOS 9.1 (the firmware that rendered the jailbreak useless), all of which can be considered more valuable than the above vulnerabilities considering they were actually exploited and used in a jailbreak.

Jailbreak iOS 9.2.1 & iOS 9.3 Full Untether Released
iOS 9.2.1 and iOS 9.3 Full Untethered Jailbreak Achieved by Luca Todesco
– Following a series of recent iOS and jailbreak updates, hacker Luca
Todesco (the very individual who posted jailbreak teasers for both iOS
9.2.1 and iOS 9.3) is back with another tantalizing proof of concept.
Previously, Todesco highlighted
a jailbreak that simply injected the kernel patches and other exploits,
but wasn’t a full jailbreak, as it was considered volatile or unstable.
Now however, the hacker has demonstrated a full fledged Untethered jailbreak on iOS 9.2
with his iPhone 6, which is said to also function on iOS 9.2.1 and iOS
9.3. But here’s the catch, as with his other jailbreak demonstrations,
Todesco has confirmed that he won’t release anything to the public. For
additional information and a complete breakdown as to why, continue past
the break.
For the purpose of simplicity, we’ve included one video embedded above that essentially breaks down Todesco’s entire demonstration and explains it – if you prefer audible updates, look no further!
In essence, Todesco is simply showing what’s possible and confirming that a jailbreak on iOS 9.2 and up remains possible. During his video, he verifies that his device is an iPhone 6 running iOS 9.2 with Cydia functioning. He then goes on to confirm that it’s a full (Untethered) jailbreak by rebooting, all while highlighting the functionality of a five icon dock tweak and Winterboard, which confirms Cydia Substrate functions on the currently un-jailbreakable firmware.

Why is this important if he won’t release it? That is undoubtedly the most popular question amongst those eagerly awaiting a new jailbreak. The answer is simple though: because it shows us what remains possible after a multitude of security patches found in iOS 9.1 and later.
While Todesco’s initial jailbreak
teasers proved that a jailbreak was possible at a kernel level (which is
the most difficult part), his latest one for iOS 9.2 showcases that
it’s possible for his jailbreak to now automatically load the kernel
patch(es) upon reboot.

In other words: the good news is that we will be able to jailbreak at some point in the future, hopefully soon. While Todesco himself won’t release anything, the two jailbreak teams on the scene (Pangu and TaiG) will eventually come to our aid and release a new jailbreak, whether it’s for iOS 9.2.1 or iOS 9.3 though remains to be seen.
Of course, we’ll keep you fully updated of all new jailbreak developments as they unfold – simply keep your browsers locked to Jailbreak Pangu.com!

Luca Todesco’s Jailbreak Demo Explained
For the purpose of simplicity, we’ve included one video embedded above that essentially breaks down Todesco’s entire demonstration and explains it – if you prefer audible updates, look no further!

Mophie acquired by ZAGG for $100 million
It was noted that the two companies have signed an agreement where both of their respective assets will be combined and ZAGG will have to dish out at least $100 million when the deal goes through. However, Zagg may have to pay even more if the earnings go past $100 million during the period of April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017. Last year alone, the two companies combined earned $470 million in net sales. Based on last year’s numbers, it is likely ZAGG will have to pay more at closing.
Apparently ZAGG is looking to widen its global distribution network and obtain access to Mophie’s production resources in China, which is their goal from acquiring Mophie to begin with. Both companies are known for making iPhone accessories and ironically, both accessory makers look to protect the iPhone from any damages and Mophie cases are widely known for its ability to charge the device as well. According to CEO and President of ZAGG, Randy Hales,
This strategic combination of two industry innovators with complementary product, brand and distribution platforms will enable us to deliver increased value for our customers and shareholders. We see numerous opportunities to drive revenue growth and increase profitability by leveraging the strengths of both organizations to strengthen product development, improve brand presence, and expand distribution.
Pangu jailbreak team member recommends updating to iOS 9.2.1
In his post, Windknown went on to explain several technical details that discussed specific kernel exploits that could be used to jailbreak the operating system. Those of you who have an understanding of programming, specifically the code found in the iOS platform, might be interested in checking the details out further (translated post via Google Translate). The part that was most interesting though was what was mentioned by the hacker towards the end of his article. A rough translation of what was mentioned stated that the vulnerability found can be triggered in the iOS sandbox, so it can attack the kernel right from the app to obtain the kernel code execution permission. He continued by recommending that users upgrade to the latest version as soon as possible and avoid installing apps from unknown sources.
The suggestion to upgrade to iOS 9.2.1 is likely an opinion that is geared towards the security aspect as it may be risky to sideload apps. There might even be a possibility that apps from the Apple Store could contain malicious codes, such as the incident that occurred with Xcode previously. Issues like these could potentially put your device at a big risk so taking precaution where possible is usually advised.
The iOS hacker, Luca Todesco (@qwertyoruip), who recently revealed a video of an untethered jailbreak for iOS 9.2.1, iOS 9.2 and iOS 9.3 beta, also recently tweeted to windknown stating the following:
Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 9.2.1, iOS 9.2 & iOS 9.3 beta shown off in new video
Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 9.2.1, iOS 9.2 & iOS 9.3 beta shown off in new video
Posted by Ali Hassan Mahdi on Feb 02, 2016 | 6 CommentsThe same hacker has now posted a new video showing a demonstration of the untethered jailbreak on his iPhone 6 with iOS 9.2 installed. In the video, he performs various tasks possible only on a jailbroken device to prove his claim, including launching Cydia to show his iOS version. The hacker also claims that his untethered jailbreak works on iOS 9.2.1 and iOS 9.3 beta as well.
