iOS 9.2.1 while it was still in the beta phase, was already jailbroken by a popular iOS hacker. The hacker is @qwertyoruiop [ext link], also known as Luca Todesco, and he has posted a screenshot of his iPhone 6 running Cydia on iOS 9.2.1 beta [image above]. It is still being debated whether or not the hacker’s claim is genuine. But Luca was credited by Apple recently for pointing out a vulnerability in iOS 9.2, so it is highly possible that the hacker has succeeded in creating an iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak.

iOS 9.2.1 Jailbreak Release Date :

However, if you think that you will be able to jailbreak iOS 9.2 soon, then you should better stop dreaming. Todesco posted a clarification along with the screenshot, and he mentioned that he will not be releasing the jailbreak. In his own words, he said, “no releases“. It seems that the hacker wants us to wait for a jailbreak from some other jailbreak team.
But do note that iOS 9.2.1 is still in its beta version, and the public release is not far away has been released already [ iOS 9.2.1 Download Here ]. It is highly possible that Luca Todesco might be thinking of releasing the jailbreak after Apple releases the firmware for the public. Another possibility says that the hacker might want to pass on (or sell) the jailbreak exploits to another team like Pangu or Team so that they in turn can come up with a jailbreak tool that is ready and fit for use by the regular iOS public.

For those who still doubt the legibility of the iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak screenshot posted by Luca, you should know that even though Todesco might not be as popular as Pangu or TaiG, he is still a talented hacker. The hacker had his hands in the iOS 9 jailbreak released by Pangu. He had also worked on an iOS 8.4.1 jailbreak, but it was never released in the form of a jailbreak tool, and the hacker posted the source code for it on GitHub.
Hackers like Luca Todesco like to find the loopholes in the security of iOS, but they do not like to make efforts to convert those exploits into a jailbreak form. So they leave it to the other jailbreak developers who are experienced in making and releasing jailbreak tools for the public. And if you still doubt Luca Todesco’s iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak, then you should have a look at the screenshot o the iOS 9.2.1 kernel dumps that Luca posted to confirm the authenticity of his jailbreak.

TaiG, Pangu, and K33n Working on iOS 9.2.1 Jailbreak

Teams Pangu and TaiG are considered the leaders in the iOS jailbreak community, as these teams have given some of the best and the most perfect iOS jailbreaks. As far as a jailbreak for iOS 9.2.1 is concerned, TaiG CEO Xei Lei had displayed confidence over TaiG’s capability to jailbreak iOS 9.1 – 9.2 more than 2 months ago, which gives us a hint that TaiG is working on the jailbreak. Meanwhile, the Pangu team has already demonstrated an iOS 9 jailbreak, and even Apple has credited TaiG and Pangu for uncovering a major iOS 9 exploit. Finally, the fact that the K33n (Keen) team has reportedly been working in an iOS 9 jailbreak under Pangu’s guidance, which tells us that all the three teams are working towards jailbreaking iOS 9.2 – iOS 9.2.1.

iH8sn0w Jailbroke iOS 9

The iOS jailbreak community got excited when iH8sn0w, a renowned hacker, showcased a jailbreak for iOS 9 on his iPhone 5. He demonstrated custom boot logos, verbose boot, etc. and proved that the jailbreak was real. However, it seems like iH8sn0w does not have any intention to release this jailbreak, which might mean that the jailbreaker is working on an iOS 9 jailbreak, or perhaps release an iOS 9.2 jailbreak.

Zerodium’s Million Dollar Bounty

An exploit trader called Zerodium had offered a million dollars to any team or individual who can provide them a full set of iOS 9 jailbreak exploits which can be used to create an untethered jailbreak for iOS 9. Jailbreak for iOS 9.2 or iOS 9.2.1?

As we all know, iOS 9.2 has been updated to iOS 9.2.1 [ Full version released on 19th Jan2 2015 ]. However, the firmware is still not perfect and contains a lot of bugs and errors. These reasons indicate that it would be better to have an iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak rather than an iOS 9.1 or iOS 9.2 jailbreak, which could result in bugs and might even give Apple a chance to patch the exploits in iOS 9 .
Therefore, we can conclude that major jailbreakers are working on iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak and we might get to hear about it soon.
